Corkscrew BBQ in Spring, Texas: Quality over Quantity

Mention barbeque in the north Houston area and the name Corkscrew BBQ will undoubtedly come up. This popular restaurant in Spring started small as a small catering sideline and eventually grew to the successful, thriving restaurant it is today.

We all love to hear the story of good people who start with a passion and a dream, and through hard work and a commitment to excellence, manage to thrive beyond their wildest expectations. Corkscrew BBQ is such a story. It started when Will and Nicole Buckman catered some parties for folks at Will’s full-time job with AT&T. Word of mouth got around, and soon the glowing comments and demand convinced the couple to start their own restaurant.

Initially, the restaurant was a tiny trailer with only outdoor seating in north Spring. Continued growth and success prompted the couple to search for a permanent home. They found the perfect location in Old Town Spring, with an old renovated building with lots of country charm, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a play area for the kids, and parking out back. Many loyal customers have been with the Buckmans since the beginning, and keep coming back to chow down on some of the best barbeque in the [amazon_textlink asin=’1521551308′ text=’Houston’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’a3cb1d1c-24c3-11e8-8d0b-cf0f5878cba4′] area.

Location:  26608 Keith St, Spring, [amazon_textlink asin=’1786573431′ text=’Texas’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’theyums-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’c437bd27-24c3-11e8-95bc-8106ee79ea79′]

The location is perfect for hungry shoppers browsing the shops in Old Town Spring, or anyone in the Spring/North Houston/The Woodlands area hankering for some great old-fashioned BBQ.

Menu: Of course, the big draws at Corkscrew are the succulent meats. You can’t go wrong with:

  • All Natural Prime Black Angus Brisket
  • Pork
  • Turkey Breast
  • Fresh-Made Beef/Pork Mix Sausage
  • Pork Spare Ribs
  • Sandwiches

The sides are also great, all made fresh every day from scratch:

  • Creamy Potato Salad
  • Cabbage/Spinach Coleslaw
  • Pit Smoked BBQ Beans
  • Mac-N-Cheese
  • Cherry Cobbler

Thoughts:  The motto for Corkscrew is “Quality over Quantity.” Living by this philosophy, Corkscrew cooks a set amount of meat each day, and stays open until it’s all gone. This ensures every serving is fresh and quality is never sacrificed by cooking too much or pushing yesterday’s leftovers on unsuspecting patrons.

The quality of the barbeque starts with the highest quality of the meat – Prime Halal Non-GMO all natural Brisket. Prime Briskets are the highest quality of Prime you can get. Cattle are free range and grass fed up to six weeks prior and are never given hormones or antibiotics. Briskets are first trimmed before cooking so as not to pass on all the extra fat to you. Each brisket loses 2-4 pounds per brisket, and then another 2-3 pounds during cooking.

Diners can choose from moist brisket, described as “fatty brisket” with beautifully rendered marbled brisket, or “lean brisket” that has no fat in the meat with ¼ inch fat cap on top. Whichever you prefer, the flavorful brisket slow cooked at Corkscrew BBQ is some of the best around. If someone in your party doesn’t care for barbeque (heaven forbid!), they can choose from a spinach salad, baked potato, or creamy mac-n-cheese.

Will and Nicole Buckman are serious about their meats and keeping their customers happy. Quality over Quantity are not empty words – you can tell that, in every dish they serve and every interaction they have with their loyal customers, that they mean it. For some quality barbeque, head on over to Corkscrew – but get there early, because food this good goes fast!

Prices:  Lunch plate with ¼ pound any meat/one side is $8.50. Sandwiches are $6-$8.25. One pound brisket $20, and individual sides $2.50-3.50.
